About the Event

Since 1989, the Sons of Italy Foundation’s (SIF) Annual National Education & Leadership Awards (NELA) Gala has raised millions of dollars and has hosted many distinguished individuals. Past attendees have included U.S. presidents, members of Congress and the Cabinet, and foreign diplomats. Previous SIF honorees include President Bill Clinton; President George W. Bush; Italy’s President Giorgio Napolitano; U.S. Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito; former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta; former Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne; science & medicine luminaries Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Robert Gallo, and Dr. Michael Sofia; entertainers Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Annette Funicello, and Gary Sinise; and sports legends Mario Andretti, Geno Auriemma, and Tommy Lasorda.

Founded in 1959, the SIF has contributed millions of dollars to scholarships, medical research, disaster relief efforts, cultural projects, veterans’ causes, and other special projects. The proceeds from the NELA Gala help fund its philanthropy.

Celebrate The Region Of Sicily With Us

Nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily stands as a beacon of rich history, unparalleled beauty, and vibrant culture. Renowned as Italy’s largest island, Sicily boasts a tapestry of influences, weaving together Greek, Roman, Arab, Norman, and Spanish legacies into its unique identity.

Sicilian cuisine is a culinary odyssey, celebrated for its fresh seafood, flavorful olives, and aromatic citrus fruits. Indulge in traditional dishes like arancini, cannoli, and pasta alla Norma, each bite a testament to the island’s gastronomic prowess.

Yet, Sicily’s true allure lies in its warm-hearted people, whose hospitality and zest for life infuse every cobblestone street and bustling piazza with an irresistible charm. As we celebrate Sicily at the 35th Annual National Education & Leadership Awards Gala, let us immerse ourselves in the essence of this enchanting region, honoring its rich heritage and boundless spirit.
